This blog will be dedicated to discussion on my work and experiences as a US Army Chaplain Assistant. Upon completion of my 2nd bachelor's degree, I enlisted into the Chaplain's Corps as a 56M. I completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson with 2/39 INF BN E Company, 2nd Plt Strike Force on 29 September 2007. I then attended US Army Chaplain Center and School (USACHCS) for AIT, graduating at Distinguished Honor Graduate on 9 November 2007. After a month home with my family and friends, I PCS'ed to my 1st Permanent Duty Station here at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. I have been with my unit, 65th Engineering BN of the 8th MP BDE for just over a month, and I am anxious to get into all of my duties as a chaplain assistant. Part of our battalion will be deploying to Iraq in about a year, no details are known exactly when or where to yet, but we are already getting ready for our time downrange.
I am assistant to Ch (CPT) Steve Hommel, a former Infantryman. He is a great chaplain, a strong man of God, and he has been deployed to Iraq 3 times--first as infantry in the first gulf war, and twice in OIF I and III as a chaplain for 3ID.
More later, its time for bed because PT formation comes early here...
